The Oceania Tennis Federation and the Guam National Tennis Federation are delighted to announce that the International Tennis Federation has agreed that the first round of the Davis Cup by BNP Paribas Asia/Oceania Zone II Pacific Oceania vs Thailand will be held on Guam at the Hilton Guam Resort & Spa Tennis Club on March 4-6.
The largest annual team competition in sport, Davis Cup has always attracted the world's leading male players. Over 133 nations competed in 2010 in the ITF's premier men's team tennis event.
In the first day of competition, Thailand's #1 player Danai Udomchoke beat Oceania's #2 Cyril Jacobe 6-0, 6-2, 6-3 and Thailand #2 Kittphong Wachiramanowang defeated Oceania #1 Michael Leong 6-3, 6-3, 6-0, giving Thailand a 2-0 lead over Oceania.
Doubles action on day 2 featured Thailand twins Sonchat and Sanchai Ratiwatana defeated Oceania's Jacobe and Leon So'onalole in a close match 6-4, 7-5, 6-2, giving Thailand the win at 3-0.
The reverse singles were played on Day 3 with Udomchoke defeating Leong 6-4, 6-0 and Wachiramanowang beating Jacobe 6-2, 6-2. Final results Thailand 5 Pacific Oceania 0.
Thailand moves on to round two against Indonesia and Pacific Oceania moves to the relegation round against Iran. The ties will be played in July.
